My Book Basket

I keep a basket of books next to my bed where I stash all of the books I am in the process of reading. Why would I need a basket, you ask? Well, there are a couple reasons for this:

  1. I love learning for the sake of learning. Add that to the fact that I am AD/HD and have a hard time focusing because I am finding new things to learn about all the time, and I may have multiple books on multiple topics in progress at the same time.
  2. Some of these books are topic-oriented and dense, thus can only be read a little bit at a time before I need to move on to something else allowing my brain time to process what I read.
  3. Some of these books are reference or pattern books for a craft or art technique I am using or learning at this time and are used off and on as I work on my project.
  4. There is usually one serious fiction book found in here that takes me a while to work through since I have to be in a specific frame of mind in order to read these more emotionally charged or intellectually challenging books.
  5. And of course there is my escape literature – fiction I am reading purely for enjoyment and to escape reality.

Along with the books, I usually keep a couple magazines in here also for those quick short reading breaks or for those days when my focus is particularly poor and the best I can do is a short article or photo blurb but still need something for my brain to process.

Each week I will be posting a new list of what can be found in my Book Basket. I find it fascinating to see what others are currently reading and can’t wait to share with others. I encourage comments and discussions about these books or even feel free to just list the books you are reading at this time.

I have also recently joined a new online forum called Goodreads. I look forward to connecting with others who are reading the same books as I am and will slowly be adding books to my virtual book shelves. My profile name is jelaine.

Hope to hear from you soon….

Slainte!

Gabe and Lily were enjoying a peaceful moment watching cousin playing on the X-Box. Notice how close Lily is keeping her green ball?
Uncle Scott bought Lily a squeeky, green, knobby ball, a package of tiny squeeky tennis balls, and a little fuzzy stuffed animal this last Sunday at Pet Smart because of course Lily stole his heart. I was a little worried she would never play with them since her foster mom said she really didn't play with her toys at her house; however no fears. The little green, knobby ball is the toy de la journée. If she hears the little squeek anywhere in the house, she jumps up running for her special toy, and believe me when I tell you she knows which toy was squeeking and only runs like that for the green knobby ball. Uncle Scott done good. Last night, G kept sqeazing Lily's green ball and then throwing it for her when she would come running. She decided she was done, so she ran in there, chased her green ball down, grabbed it and then came and burrowed into her bed with it. After she was all tucked in with her ball, she looked up at me with a look that seemed to say: "My bal...

A work in progress....

Sometimes I have too much "get up and go" in me. Which basically means I have these amazingly AD/HD moments that completely baffle everyone in my life. I am a person who can not create or think when surrounded by chaos. I have to clean my studio area before I can work; have to have all my supplies organized or I can't find anything; easily lose things in piles; and am easily sucked into reorganizing if a system is not working for me and I am feeling overwhelmed by the mess of it. Trying to set up a simple blog has proven to be one of those ongoing AD/HD moments for me. I started out right by setting up my original blog using my jelainedesigns igoogle account, however when google bought blogger, I somehow messed up the log-in/account switch-over process and assigned the blog to my personal igoogle account instead of my jelainedesigns one. Blogger would not allow me to transfer them to a different email/igoogle account, and I couldn't just shut them down and reopen...
